Nerves? Excitement?
I love to think Im totally unique, but time has shown me otherwise so I suspect there are at least a few other writers out there who get weird when they sign a new contract. My first book was way back in 1987. Titled Successful Single Parenting, I thought I would die when the publisher called and said he wanted to buy!
Youd think by now Id be used to it, right? Wrong! I signed a contract today that exceeds my total income for some years (Ive lived lean, really lean off and on.) and Im almost a basket case. A nice basket case, but Im having trouble focusing on anything but the most mundane. Id like to take a nap, but Im too restless. All the plants are in the ground and my kitty wont sit still for a serious petting she doesnt like the energy at the moment. Come to think about it, neither do I.
What I really need to do is to remember to be humbly grateful grateful that I can write, grateful for the contract and grateful for the time to process my emotions.
