Nerves? Excitement?

by Anne Wayman on May 4th, 2005

I love to think I’m totally unique, but time has shown me otherwise… so I suspect there are at least a few other writers out there who get weird when they sign a new contract. My first book was way back in 1987. Titled Successful Single Parenting, I thought I would die when the publisher called and said he wanted to buy!

You’d think by now I’d be used to it, right? Wrong! I signed a contract today that exceeds my total income for some years (I’ve lived lean, really lean off and on.) and I’m almost a basket case. A nice basket case, but… I’m having trouble focusing on anything but the most mundane. I’d like to take a nap, but I’m too restless. All the plants are in the ground and my kitty won’t sit still for a serious petting – she doesn’t like the energy at the moment. Come to think about it, neither do I.

What I really need to do is to remember to be humbly grateful… grateful that I can write, grateful for the contract and grateful for the time to process my emotions.
