The Golden Pencil: The Freelance Writer’s Resource

16 New Freelance Writing Jobs

by Anne Wayman on May 12th, 2005

On one site or another I’ve been posting links to freelance writing jobs for a couple of years now. When I started I sometimes had to work hard to find four listings I could link to; these days I rarely have fewer than 10, and sometimes double that. Today there are sixteen new writing and editing jobs.

I’d like to think the increase is because I’ve gotten smarter about searching, and I suppose I deserve some credit. But it’s not all me. Publishers and businesses needing writers have really discovered the web is an ideal way to find freelance writers so there is much more to choose from.

I only post jobs that are truly freelance – that is, if you have to go to an office, or if the writing is restricted to a local area, I won’t post it. Which means you’re on your own for fulltime writing work, or temp writing work or writing jobs that are strictly local. And although I’ll post some low paying jobs, I never knowingly post a job that isn’t paid in cash.

Well, not quite. I’ve also posted a list of Where I Search for Freelance Writing jobs and if you’re looking for something nearby, that list is as good a place to start as any. If you’ve got a Craig’s List near you, that’s an even better place to start. And it’s worth checking the Sunday edition of the closest big newspaper too.

There truly is work out there for anyone who can write and is willing to look for it.
