The Golden Pencil: The Freelance Writer’s Resource

Getting to the Heart of Your Writing Business

by Anne Wayman on July 14th, 2005

I’ve written about the need to have goals and vision for your writing business, and I believe every word I said. But the last six weeks or so I’ve found myself sort of at sea about my freelance writing work. Sure, there’s been lots going on, but there’s been a sense of unease or lack of clarity.

In the course of some of the volunteer work I do, it came to me that the organization I was working with needed some mediation. I consulted with a friend and she gave me six names of mediators and facilitators who were grounded in Spirit. I contacted and interviewed each of them and made a presentation to the group with some positive results.

One of those I contacted was Mark Silver. If you visit his website, you’ll see he offers a free eworkbook called Getting to the Core of Your Business. ™ This morning I worked through it. All I can say is “Wow!”

I had expected some help redefining my business and perhaps some marketing tips. What I got is a whole new look at what I actually bring to my writing and coaching clients. I’m delighted to report it’s not what I thought! For the first time, I’ve got a deeper look into the talents I’ve been given and how I express them.

I’m not yet sure how this will manifest in my business, but it will. It’s one of those things I can actually feel and recognize a shift taking place. Go ahead, download it for yourself. Work through it and let me know the result.
