The Golden Pencil: The Freelance Writer’s Resource

Editor Cats and Writer’s Keyboards

by Anne Wayman on September 17th, 2005

MzTiz, my 8-year-old tabby mostly pays little attention to my writing activities; they seem to be out of her ken. She knows beyond any doubt that food shows up, as does water and affection in precisely the amounts she wants.

This morning, however, she curled up near the keyboard after we’d had a delightful few moments of mutual petting. That was fine until she stretched a bit. Suddenly my cursor was moving down the page at a rapid rate, driven by her body as her hip landed on the Enter key. Sigh – so I picked her up and we shared a few more moments in the chair, away from the keyboard.

I don’t know what, if anything, she was trying to tell me, but I appreciated the break.

Write well and often,
