The Golden Pencil: The Freelance Writer’s Resource

Self-publishing, the Web and Self-assigned Writing

by Anne Wayman on September 25th, 2005

Several years ago I wrote a book, Powerfully Recovered! In spite of an agent, and who knows how many positive rejections, it didn’t find a publisher. So I published it myself. And I’ve marketed it through a website. It hasn’t become a best seller, but it has sold steadily.

For years I wrote an article a week for the site, and, over time built a mailing list of around 2,000 people. For the last year, I’ve done almost nothing with the site. Much to my delight, the book has continued to sell and the mailing list has continued to grow.

Today I made a commitment to myself and to the people on the list to redesign the site and start writing articles again. I also have some new plans for the book.

And so it begins; another self-directed writing market. I’ll keep you posted.

Will you share the process with us, so we can learn what it’s like?

That’s awesome, Anne. Seems to me that blogging requires the same kind of commitment and hopefully, will reap the same kind of readership.
