The Golden Pencil: The Freelance Writer’s Resource

Journal Writing and the Freelance Writer

by Anne Wayman on October 23rd, 2005

Sometimes I wonder if my ability to write quickly and easily is an advantage when it comes to Journal Writing… I’ve recently been going through some fairly major emotional upheavals. I’m also taking a class that makes a Journal part of the homework. A month ago, when we started, getting back to Journaling was a joy. As the shadow side of me began to surface, it became more like hard work. Resistance surfaced and I spent 2-1/2 days reading mystery novels and not answering the phone.

Finally, earlier today, I got back to both Journaling and spending some time on the web looking for and reading about archetypes… and gradually, by putting words on paper, and by reading words on paper, and by weeping a bit, things began to clear up.

Tomorrow or the next day, I’ll read what I wrote today. I suspect some of it is actually grist for the current book. Sometimes we do write down to our bones, and beyond.

I wouldn’t trade my ability to write for anything, even when it drives me crazy.

Meanwhile, MzTiz, my editor cat, is insisting it’s time for her dinner - she’s right.

Write well and often,
