OCR Scanning – Tech Can Be Great

by Anne Wayman on October 28th, 2005

I have an agent interested in a book I wrote way back in 1987 – on a typewriter! The typewriter was electric… I think it was self-correcting, but I’m not sure. Obviously, I don’t have the file on computer.

Several years ago I acquired, along with a printer, a program called Iris Pro. Of course, my version is 6 and they’re up to 10 now, but I decided to try it. I have a newer printer and a newer version of Word, too… but it seems to be working ok. A bit klugey, but better, I think, then typing the whole manuscript in.

I say I think, because there are three or four steps per page, and the book does need a lot of rewriting. In fact, I’m sort of amazed it ever got published. But it did and while the writing is, well, not as good as I’d like it today, the ideas are good ones.

The book needs some reorganization and some expansion… by using Word’s headings I’ll be able to re-develop the table of contents… I think this is worth doing this way… I’ll keep you posted.

Write well and often,
