The Golden Pencil: The Freelance Writer’s Resource

Intellectual Freedom and the Freelance Writer

by Anne Wayman on November 21st, 2005

I’m still thinking about the Challenged Books list I blogged about the other day. So I decided to head on over to the American Library Assn’s site and see what they had to offer. It’s pretty nifty.

Start with the Basics. Take some time to read it all… it will take some time, so bookmark the site if you have to.

Intellectual freedom is important to freelance writers because we need to be able to say what we want to say. I particularly like this quote I found there:

“Restriction of free thought and free speech is the most dangerous of all subversions. It is the one un-American act that could most easily defeat us.”—Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas.

A powerful statement worth thinking about.

Write well and often,

How about hate speeches? some people abuse freedom of speech and expression to the point of infringing certain rights.
