The Golden Pencil: The Freelance Writer’s Resource

Writing Blurbs

by Anne Wayman on December 1st, 2005

Blurbs, you know, those cute (ugh) or pithy tag lines, or statements about something that’s usually for sale. Book authors need blurbs for back of jacket copy, others need them for selling who knows what. Sometimes writers are paid a whole bunch of money to write blurbs.

But blurbs can get out of hand, and be just plain silly. Writer’s Digist has put together an automatic blurb generator - you probably won’t want to use any of these, but, even if they don’t spark your imagination, they are good for a chuckle or two.

Write well and often,
