Client Interruptions – Asking For Help

by Anne Wayman on January 18th, 2006

I recently got my knickers in a wad because of a panic email from a client. Feeling frustrated, I went to our forum and asked for suggestions on how to handle this sort of thing. I got some good ones too.

But what was really helpful is that (1) I had a place to vent where I knew I’d be heard and supported and (2) some gentle reminders that as a freelancer I am in charge of my time.

We freelance writers often work in isolation – and generally we love it. But that isolation can also mean lapses in judgment. Finding a way to get support, to vent and be heard and to simply share is, I think vital. A phone call to a writing friend can work. So can instant messaging or a forum – it doesn’t matter how we reach out, just that we do.

Write well and often,
