Reading Is So Much A Part Of Writing
I was gathering up a bunch of mystery and suspense books to take to the thrift shop today and I had one of those moments of guilt. You know, “Oh my God I shouldn’t spend so much money or time reading paperbacks.”
Now I can beat myself up with the best of them, and I actively work not to because it simply doesn’t serve. When I noticed the negative self-talk I looked around and guess what? I’m also reading all sorts of “good things.” Both the current Harpers Magazine and Atlantic Monthly are open to articles I’m in the process of reading. The Essential Ken Wilbur is bookmarked beside my big chair; so is Sharif Abdullah’s Creating a World That Works For All. Yes, I’m reading both.
It’s hard to prove, but I’m certain all this reading contributes to my ability to write and think and have ideas.
So I say “Congratulations” to me and to any writer out there reading.
Write well and often,
