Bird by Bird
I put off reading Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life for years. In truth I was jealous of Ann Lamott. “Besides,” I justified my resistance to myself, “she whines!” And sometimes she does… who doesn’t? Including me.
Three or four years ago I got off it and bought the book. It took me another couple of months to actually begin reading it… and now it’s become a staple… one of those books I read or dip into time and time again.
I read it to laugh. I read it so I know I’m not the only one. I read it to cry. If you haven’t read it, do so… and if you have, read it again. Bird by Bird also makes a great gift for other writers.
