Sometimes Writing Work Drops In Your Lap
I just got a call from the managing editor of a print and online magazine I’ve never heard of. They need 750-1,000 words on a happening at a school in San Diego. And they are paying well, so of course I said yes.
When I asked the ME how she found me, she mentioned I was listed on a site I’ve never heard of… all of which is why I love the ‘net so much.
Of course, I have a website – www.annewayman.com – but she didn’t know about that. All she had was my phone number, the fact that I live in San Diego and the fact that I can write. My hunch is sometime ago I posted a resume or registered at some site that promotes or networks writers for free – I do that sort of thing routinely when such sites come to my attention.
I’ve had clients call who only know they found me “someplace on the web.” It doesn’t happen often… but often enough to be sure having a website or two and registering my abilities here and there pays off. I strongly suggest you do the same thing.
