Writers and Their Websites
If you’ve followed me for any length of time, you know I’m a big believer in Writer’s Websites. I have more than one – I promote myself as a writer at www.annewayman.com and I offer articles, ebooks, an affiliate program and more for freelance writers at www.aboutfreelancewriting.com.
The problem with websites is they need maintenance. I acquire another substantial credit and the credit list needs to be updated. I decide I want to focus more on ebook sales and the whole design needs to be tweaked. In fact, I asked the forum for suggestions and they had some good ones… including fixing a typo that I hadn’t been able to see at all.
There seems to be some universal law that states “updating a website will always take at least twice as long as you think it will… and sometimes twice that!”
Of course, its way easier than it used to be… editors mean there’s little or no hand coding; broadband connections mean faster uploading. But it still takes time and it’s not very interesting – at least once you get past the design phase, which is always a time sink, but kinda fun and way different than writing.
I guess I’m whining and winging aren’t I? Well, yes… and I still think every writer should have their own website promoting their work. Whether you want to get into another, more comprehensive site marketing something is a whole different issue.
Write well and often,
