Ye Gods I Can Get Distracted!
I’d been concentrating on work for a corporate client and they put the project on hold for a couple of weeks due to an illness in the family of the guy I’m working with. That has freed up a whole bunch of time, and sometimes I think available time is positively dangerous.
I decided it would be a good time for me to re-focus on what I call “my work.” In my world, that’s my websites, some writing projects I’d put on the back burner, and the like. I realized as I poked around that I was scattered in my goals for my work, so I’ve been reworking goals, including the calendar I use to track what I’m doing. Which is all to the good.
Today was meant to be a goal setting day, and it has been, but as I’ve been working through my goals, I’ve also been taking action on various things, like this blog and beginning to figure out exactly what I want to do with another site and with my nascent writing coaching business. All was pretty focused until I checked on the stats for www.powerfullyrecovered.com. I host with 1and1 and I noticed a notice on domain parking. I didn’t know what that was, so off I went and yes, I’ve got a couple of domain names I’m not using now parked in a way that may result in some cash from Google AdWords. But it took an hour and a toll free phone call to get it set up.
Somehow that led to some experimenting with a Google search box – it was too wide, but… that burned another 45 minutes or so.
I decided to check on domain names for the coaching business while I was there and that took another 30 or 40 minutes. Then I decided it was time to really develop a statement about what I mean by Financial Independence. I’d just gotten started on that when I checked my email, and another client needed a minor tweak on a project that’s within an eyelash of being finished. That took several emails, making the tweak and converting the document to .pdf… which took me totally off course for my Financial Independence statement.
Every single thing I’ve done is to the good, but what a crooked path… particularly when I’m just beginning to recognize how scattered I can get!
Does this sound familiar to anyone, or am I the only one?
