The Golden Pencil: The Freelance Writer’s Resource

Money and Marketing - 31 Days to Better Freelance Writing - Day 1

by Anne Wayman on July 1st, 2006

Here we go… starting with two tips from Lori Widmer who sent them in via email just before she fixed dinner.

  1. Stop chasing the money! Instead of trying to reach a target amount of money per month, try reaching a target number of clients. If you resolve to gain one new client per month, he money will follow.
  2. Contact at least seven current clients and seven potential clients per day. If you take the time to remind the clients that you’re there, you’ll be rewarded with projects.

Chasing clients instead of money makes a whole lot of sense to me… although I don’t know that I’ve ever tried to get in touch with seven current and seven potential clients in a single day… but I get the point, and I suspect Lori would agree that doing this with some consistency is the best way to go about it.

Lori has her own website and her very own blog called Words On the Page. Thanks Lori.

Now, the rest of you - add tips in comments and I’ll bring ‘em up into each day’s blog. What could be easier!

Write well and often,
