Crashes, Finding Lost Files, Problems Logging In – It All Counts

by Anne Wayman on August 30th, 2006

library.jpgOne of my projects involves getting updates from an OfficeLive site. The goal is a worthy one. As the team members update documents I need for the project, I’m, at least in theory, able to access them without going through the drama of mailing multiple attachments. I love the idea – it’s the implementation that drives me mad.

Almost every time I log in something goes wrong and I have to fiddle to actually get onto the site. And almost every time I try to open an updated file the first attempt crashes Word. And you know what that means… either closing all Word files before I attempt to get the new document or going through the process of recovering the Word files that were open when I tried the download.

But you know what? I bill for every single second of this sort of nonsense. It’s not my fault the program is buggy – my computer and ‘net connection more than meet the requirements.

What I haven’t figured out is how to bill for the combination of frustration and distraction. Of course, it did give me another blog topic ;)

Write well and often,

Anne Wayman
