One Writer’s To-Do List
Like many, I work off of a to-do list. Mine is actually in GoalPro, a pretty good way to set up goals and track them.
My pattern is to check it over each morning and the last week or so the undone items from the day before have gotten, well, embarrassing.
A couple of items are things like updating sitemaps – I thought I’d do that quarterly, but the truth is, I have no inclination what-so-ever to mess with them right now. I removed them from the list. Another is what has been an ongoing project that I suspect is going south. I can’t get a response from the client via email so I’ll call Monday and see what’s up. If I’m right, and the project is over but not completed, I’m happy because I’ve made sure I’ve been paid along the way.
Paying some bills is on today’s list, but I’m waiting for a check so those will roll over which is okay.
At least walk! I admonish myself in one daily entry… I’ll probably get that done today.
But there are some other entries… some blogging on the DollarsandDebt blog that I’m just not getting to. Nor am I following through on posting some articles to drive traffic. And there’s the person I owe an apology to but I haven’t read the emails yet… the list goes on.
Obviously some re-thinking needs to be done. That’s one of the advantages of the software… when my to-dos get too undone I know I’ve got to spend some time looking at what I really want to accomplish and when.
This sort of re-evaluation needs to happen in the life of any freelancer. We’re self-driven and keeping track of ourselves is part of the challenge.
Write well and often,
