I Love Google’s Desktop Search
Do you ever lose files on your computer? I sure do. Today I couldn’t remember how I filed two word documents.
The first is a maybe manuscript about me and my cat. Does the world need another book about cats? Probably not, but if I get this together, cat lovers might enjoy it.
The second lost file was the preliminary agreement with a ghostwriting client. I almost panicked because it was time to draft the final agreement.
In both cases I more or less remembered the file name – in the first case I knew I had included MzTiz, my tabby’s known name; in the second, almost all the contracts I create are letters of agreement and usually carry that in their title.
Turned out I had put MzTizSpeaks in a miscellaneous file I’d moved to my documents some time ago. And I’d filed the contract in a folder with the client’s name… but for some reason, I’d used the client’s last name first rather than my usual first and last name. I use first and last name in that order because that’s how I think of them.
A quick search using Google’s desktop search found both and I was off and running. I’ve actually downloaded Google’s desktop search and when I can’t find something get to click on the little green and red logo on my task bar. Easy breezy.
Write well and often,

Hmm. I’ve never downloaded anything like that before. I usually just use the little wizard guy that comes with Word, you know, the one that goes “Hmmmm….Hmmmm…” while he’s looking for something? LOL

well, some would say you shouldn’t download anything… I keep a middle course and trust google… but I could live without it.

Google Desktop is a useful tool! I downloaded it months ago and forgot about it. One day, while not being able to find a particular file, I recalled that I had this device. Like you, Anne, I was able to find a file with a “different” file name within mere moments. I am sure that I saved myself endless headaches because I remembered to use this tool!
