Memory Full? Email Box Full?
Don’t do this to yourself!Don’t make your writing clients goat dance to communicate with you.
I just sent an email to a friend who runs her own business… it bounced with a message saying her email box is too full to take more messages. Next I tried to return a phone call to a potential new client. Yep, his answering machine is too full to take any more messages.
Talk about shooting yourself in the foot! Clients and customers have to be able to get in touch with you if they are going to do business with you.
Now I happen to know that my friend has recently changed the software she uses for her email and she thinks the problem is there. That may be, but in the meantime she’s loosing potential business. For email you need an email client and an email provider who will not put any limit on how many messages you can have in your email in box.
I haven’t used a physical answering machine for year – I discovered they break every year which ends up costing me almost as much as the message service I pay my phone company to provide. It takes messages no matter what. I think in 10 or so years, the service has been down for maybe half a day. Far better than the physical machines which require tapes, or replacement so often.
Do yourself a favor and right now check and see if there’s any limit on your email in box or on the messages your answering system can take… if there are, make it a top priority to change it.
By the way, I used to use Outlook but switched to Eudora for email – it’s free and if it’s got a limit I haven’t gotten close to it. (Well, their moving to OpenSource next year so I’m not clear about any cost.) I couple Eudora with MailWasher Pro which allows me to screen my email on the server and lets me easily build rules and mark spammers so I don’t drag that stuff into my inbox. MailWasher comes in a free and a paid (Pro) version.
