Goal Setting For Writers
I don’t know about you, but around this time every year I start thinking about goals – what I want from and for my writing, my writing business and my life in general. Devon, over at Ink In My Coffee has already posted her Goals, Dreams, and Resolutions 2007 questions. I like the idea of questions, and she’s got 17 good ones – questions to contemplate as we move into 2007.
Starting with her first three, here are my answers:
- Take a few minutes to reflect on the previous year. What are you happy with?
I have a ton to be grateful for this year… my earnings are up significantly, my relationships with my kids and grandkids is excellent and life is good.
- What are you unhappy with?
Not much, but I do have an ongoing issue with the leadership of an organization I belong to and have discovered I’m only happy with it when I’m leading, not when someone else is… since the organization is important to me, I’m actively searching with a way to come to terms with myself and others.
- What unexpected joys did you discover during the year?
The most surprising to me is how I love not being vague about my income and expenses. I actually balance my checkbook now and know exactly where my money comes from and how I spend it… this from someone who didn’t even try to balance her checkbook for decades.
I’m going to answer three or four of Devon’s questions here until I work through the list. I suspect that as I do, the goal setting will get clearer and clearer.
Write well and often,
