The Golden Pencil: The Freelance Writer’s Resource

Sometimes A Day Just Gets Away

by Anne Wayman on March 21st, 2007

Sometimes a day just gets away from me. This morning my routine was disturbed by an early morning call with a client. It was a good call but it took some serious time.

Then I had a meeting that lasted a couple of hours… again, very productive.

Next a quick stop at the two stores to fill in some groceries – not always fun, but always needed.

Because I was close to sleepless last night, after lunch I took a nap… a much longer nap than I originally intended.

Now I’m scurrying to get to the library and to my son’s for dinner and a piano concert by my grandson.

In other words, not much writing today. One of the things I love about freelancing… I do get to control my own time.

Write well and often,

A dream of mine, to be a freelancer. I’m getting there. You have an interesting site, I’ve enjoyed reading.

Sometimes it’s great to have days like that, if for no other reason than just to have some variety. Especially in a business like freelancing! Of course, then it’s back to the grindstone the next day ;)

Yay for getting to control our own time! Boo for losing control of the time…which is what those kinds of days cause me to do, ha.

It took me a couple of years to really trust myself to organize my time as a full-time freelancer. Now I trust my process, but I remember when I used to flog myself to a restaruant every morning and write on yellow tablets to avoid going back to bed.

Hmm…writing outside the comforts of home…and vicinity of bed…good idea! Once it gets warmer, I totally plan to do more writing outside on my patio. I won’t have a laptop by then :( but good old fashioned longhand never killed anyone.
