What’s On Your Desk?
Okay, I’m bragging… my desk is close to tidy. Someone suggested that while a cluttered desk may be a sign of a cluttered mind, a clean desk actually opened up space for your writing business to expand.
I have no idea if that’s true or not, but the idea of cleaning up my desk so my business will grow is a much better motivator for me than the virtue of cleanliness or because it would please my mother.
So, what’s on my desk today, more or less:
- Computer, monitor, track ball, printer and speakers
- Solar calculator
- A box of ink cartridges (hidden behind the printer thank you)
- My good luck wee green frog
- Pens, pencils and such gathered in a nice stainless steep pitcher.
- Paper clips in a paperclip holder – why do I have paper clips? I only use them to occasionally spring a disk from my computer… maybe it’s time to let them go.
- An expense form partially filled out
- A red pen
- A permanent marking pen for cds – black
- A couple of pads of message-type paper
- A stapler
- My box for daily receipts, bills, etc.
- Scotch tape
And that’s about it. I can actually see a great deal of the surface, which is nice.
Now, to resist the temptation to hide all that surface!
No, the pix isn’t my desk, but mine is like that – a sort of Murphy Bed. The desk part drops down in such a way nothing spills, and there’s my bed. Perfect for a studio like mine. You can see more of the at www.hiddenbed.com
And maybe not so by-the-way, b5media has a blog that addresses clutter and how to get rid of it, called Declutter It. Lots of good info there

Anne,
The hidden bed is the neatest thing I have ever seen. I’m going to check out the declutter contest too.
You have such a unique way of blending your life experiences into motivation and lessons for others.

It’s so bad, I can’t even go there. I dont’ want to waste all your bandwidth listing the things I need to clean up. :((

Carma… thank you so very much for the comment… yes, sometimes it’s hard to tell my life from my writing… one of those blessings and curses sort of things.

My desk operates on the archeological principle: I layer any horizontal surface with artifacts until it groans! De-cluttering is definitely in order! LOL!
Love the murphy desk!

I just finished moving furniture in my office, so maybe this isn’t fair, but I have the following on my desk:
Lamp
Computer monitor
Legal pad (currently working on a book idea)
2007 Writer’s Market
Cell phone
Asian patterned dish that holds coins
Pen
Don’t worry, by next week I’ll be buried again!
