A Writer Messes With Graphics

by Anne Wayman on April 12th, 2007

silvergiveaway.jpgI don’t think of myself as a designer or an expert in graphics – words are my real game. The web, however, has given me a chance to take a break from writing and play with both design and graphics.

As I mentioned, I’m working on a booklet. It’s actually an ebook or booklet I’m writing as a giveaway. I spent some serious time yesterday and today doing the actual writing, and am close to a draft. But late this morning I’d had enough. I need some distance, and overnight will probably do it.

That freed up some time. I decided to spend it working on a cover for the ebook. You see the draft results here. Since I’ve done ebook covers before I knew how to start.

I was unhappy with the cover templates I have so I googled free ebook covers and came up with DynamiteCovers.com. They’ve got a free download of some covers you can use.

Since I may also offer this for sale to the few people who want a hard copy, and since I’m anxious to try lulu.com, I decided I’d probably upload it there using their wire-bound version. Sure enough, I was able to find the right template.

Then I opened PhotoImpact, Ulead.com’s PhotoShop-like graphics program and started to play. It’s not finished yet… I’ve still got some adjustments to make… but I’m on the right track and I know the writing will go well in the morning.

Write well and often,
