The Golden Pencil: The Freelance Writer’s Resource

Make It Easy For Clients To Contact You

by Anne Wayman on June 28th, 2007

coaching.jpgIt should be obvious, but I’m often surprised at how many writers fail to make it easy for people to contact them. As I experience it, my clients initially contacted me either by email or by phone.

Most of my clients find me on the web. That’s why I urge every single writer who is even a bit serious about getting clients have a web site. I make sure my email and phone number is on all my websites (yes, I have more than one) and my mailing address is on all of them except this blog. The only problem I’ve had is an increase in spam, and filtering programs take care of that.

I also pay attention to my email signature. I’ve set it up so it’s included in all emails unless I deliberately suppress it for some reason. Of course, the email itself gives my email address, but my signature lists my websites and my phone number.

Additionally I use business cards which I get from Vista Print - Free Shipping on Orders over $50 at VistaPrint.com!

Admittedly, not much business comes my way through the cards, but once and awhile I do get a referral. They’re just nice to have.

Make it easy for clients to contact you – it will pay off.

Write well and often,
