The Golden Pencil: The Freelance Writer’s Resource

Agent’s Blogs

by Anne Wayman on July 22nd, 2007

book.jpgIt should have been obvious. After all, two days ago I did a post about Publisher’s Blogs. But it took going to Joe Wikert’s Publishing 2020 Blog and chasing some links on his post Pub Rants that I stumbled on PubRants the blog. (I know, the blogosphere does get, if not confusing, a bit recursive at times.)

PubRants is by an agent calling herself Agent Kristin. She natters on most days about what’s going on in her life as a literary agent (and what she listens to on her iPod) and provides her thinking about whatever comes up.

For example, in What I Always Counsel, she talks about a writer who approached her wanting to change agents. “Have you spoken to your agent about your desire to leave?” Kristen asks, then goes on to explain why this is a great idea. You have to poke around a bit to find useful info, but it’s there and worth digging for.

But, over on her menu, she’s also got a list of Agents Who Blog. There’s real gold here for any book author looking for an agent. Like the publisher’s blogs, agent’s blogs give you a real clue about what they are looking for. Many of them also list their clients, and chasing a few of those is revealing too. Besides, you might even discover someone you know who could recommend you.

Kristen lists 10 agents; a Google Blog Search for literary agents lists almost 4,000. Are you beginning to see the opportunity here? What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon or two.

Write well and often,
