The Golden Pencil: The Freelance Writer’s Resource

No Jobs The Rest of This Week

by Anne Wayman on October 2nd, 2007

jobpencilsthumbnail.jpgFolks, I’m not going to publish jobs tomorrow (Wednesday) or Friday. I need to get clarity on several things, including how I’m using my time. So this is an experiment.

I’ll keep you posted on exactly what I’ll be doing after this week. Meantime, I’d love to get your comments about the job postings I do.

Write well and often,

Many of your job postings can be found on TWJ and FWJ, which I check daily as well. However, you also somehow manage to gather up the more obscure job listings that nobody else has. I love this site and recommend it to all new freelancers, whose first question is usually “Where do I find jobs?” Valuable service indeed, but do what’s right for you.

Hayli, what’s TWJ and FWJ? I probably use them, but don’t recognize the initials.

Yeah, over time I’ve gotten pretty good at this… thanks

I would miss not getting these updates - I check them as soon as I’m able. Ninety percent of them don’t apply to me, but when I find a good one, it’s a really good one.

It’s always a balancing act isn’t it? Trying to figure out what’s best for you and your writing career. When you figure out how to find clarity, let us all know. We’re all searching for it as well!

Count me in the bunch who would really miss your job postings. I had a message on my answering maching yesterday from a potential client I believe I found through your site. I haven’t talked to him yet, so I’m not absolutely positive about that!

    Anne,

I must say that as a new reader to your blog and a new freelancer, I really appreciate your postings as well! However, I have found that sometimes, the same job gets listed more than once a week. So, in the back of my mind, I always disagree with the title “New” for your “Freelance Writing, Blogging…” etc. job listings. They are not always new, and I know you do the absolute best you can, which is amazing! I don’t want to complain, but maybe being careful to only list each job once could save you time in the long run (from having to re-post the same job) and your readers’ time as well (not having to click/re-examine jobs we’ve already checked out)?

    Oh, sorry. TWJ is http://dailyjoblist.telecommuting-writing-jobs.com/
but they usually have pretty much the same ones as you and Deb. And lately, there has been a trend toward posting jobs that require workers to live in a particular town or even come into an office (like newspapers). I notice you shy away from listing those - much appreciated!

Would it help if we commented more on when we got jobs from your site? You know, for encouragement to you? You could also set up the “Buy me a coffee” feature for donations like Deb did. It may not be your thing, but I think it makes sense. After all, we’re all certainly benefiting financially from your work.

Actually, people do post on our forum when they get a jobhttp://www.aboutfreelancewriting.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl and donations always accepted ;)
