The Golden Pencil: The Freelance Writer’s Resource

Of Print Cartridges, Recycling, Writers and Faith

Today is Blog Action Day. The goal is to have bloggers ‘round the world write about ways we can all work together to slow global warming.

Last July, I wrote about 7 Ways Writers Can Help Stop Global Warming. That post generated a ton of comments, many expressing dismay and a sense that we’re more or less helpless in the face of it all. But many also expressed thanks and hope.

I know both feelings. Sometimes I simply feel fear. I imagine a world without salmon and elephants and without enough water and I grieve for things like blue starfish and coral reefs. And sometimes I’m hopeful, being extra careful to recycle as much as I can. I also write letters and make phone calls to my representatives. I’ve also bought myself carbon neutral through Native Energy. And I recycle my print cartridges.

I have no idea if any of these efforts will stave off disaster or not. I have no control, except over my own actions. And our society is so geared to waste!

But there’s nothing at all to be lost by trying and maybe, if enough of us recycle, and reduce our carbon footprint and take whatever action we can, we will be successful. Come to think about it, I’m not even sure what success would look like.

What I am dedicated to is a world that works for everyone, leaning on The Global Heart Vision as a guide for thinking and action.
