The Golden Pencil: The Freelance Writer’s Resource

Wrapping Up Your Freelance Writing Year

by Anne Wayman on December 10th, 2007

calendarI’m having real problems believing it’s already December 10th! I’m sure it’s a sign of getting older that time seems to slip by at an almost alarming rate. With the end of 2007 in sight, here’s what I plan to do to wrap up my freelance writing year:

  • Review my goals - I know in a general way I’ve done well, but I want to take time to really see what worked and what didn’t.
  • Review my income goals - income goals are, for me, different than other goals. Again, I know I’ve done well in a general way, but I’ve begun to change the way I do business and I want to break that out specifically. Also, reviewing goals let’s me set reasonable ones for 2008,
  • Adjust the way I track expenses - I keep a spreadsheet in addition to using Quicken and I want to get the categories in each so they match.
  • Make a list of undone details - you know, the sorts of things I mean to do, that I want to get done, but they just didn’t happen. Once I’ve got a list, I’ll decide how important they really are.
  • Send a card or email to clients and past clients - maybe I’ll do this one, or maybe I’ll decide to do it in March or April when it might be noticed more.

I’m sure there are some other things, but that’s my end of the year to-do list for now. What are you planning to do to wrap up your writing year?
