Getting The Most From Firefox For Writers
I don’t know about you, but I’ve been using Firefox as my browser for years. I don’t much like the way Bill Gates and Microsoft ran Netscape out of business by bundling Internet Explorer way back when and I always tend to favor the underdog. Of course, Firefox is hardly an underdog, but…
I’ve also known Firefox has nifty bells and whistles, but I rarely take time to explore them. Fortunately, someone’s done a lot of the work for me. LifeDev, a personal productivity blog, created a post called: 25 Firefox Extensions to Make You More Productive Although several of the extensions are aimed at gmail, which I don’t use, there are several I’m really looking forward to trying, including:

Scrapbook
Googlepedia
These seem made for writers, but there are others I’ll explore as well. Which intrigue you the most?

Thanks for sharing. I haven’t used Firefox to its fullest, but these extensions are likely to change that.

Hey,
So I use firefox a lot, and I think my favorite extensions have to be:
Adblock Plus - Sorry to all you guys making money off ads, I do too, but some of them are just annoying.
Advanced Dork: - This is fantastic, it allows you to use all of google’s advanced search features
BlogRovR - See any posts any of your favorite blogs have made on any site you are currently visiting - know if someone has talked about it already!
Flashblock - I hate messy flash aps
Full fullscreen - enough said
Google Global - lets you trick google into thinking you are anywhere in the world you would like to get you search results from
JumpKnowledge - let’s you create a permanent copy of a site as-is on their server, with your own notes on it
Save text area - lets you easily save a text file from any text box (like the one i am typing in now) easily
Foxmarks - lifesaver, backs up all your bookmarks automatically so that you don’t loose them, and you can even temporarily download them to any firefox you are working on at the time!
FireScribe - handy text box that pops up at the bottom of the browser window so you can write about what you are reading in real time
I use a load of others as well, but those are my favorites for writing.
Quick piece of advise: loads of popups = really, really slow browser. I keep Opera’s browser as an ever present backup, because it is the fastest browser on the planet by far (i am a web developer and have 8 browsers installed on my pc)
Hope this helps.
Mike
