The $600 Tax Rebate Revisited

by Anne Wayman on April 28th, 2008

tax_forms.jpgBack in March I speculated about what I’d do when my $600 rebate arrived. Today, with the announcement that the first rebates were deposited today, I looked back at my post.

I was tickled to see that I managed to order a new couch and get bookcases without the rebate. But I’m still not sure what I will actually do with it… maybe put some in a retirement fund? Save half or some other amount… blow part of it just for fun, but doing what?

So once again, what are you planning to do with your tax rebate?

We haven’t decided yet. My wife and I are waiting to see the funds first, then we’ll discuss disbursement. Some money will be set aside for savings, while other money will go toward future taxes.

I can’t see us blowing hardly any of it — I don’t want to squander this unique opportunity.

Putting it toward a car my wife and I bought two years ago. Not exactly what the rebates were meant for, but I believe a lot of Americans — if not most of them — will use it to pay down debt.

We plan to invest ours. In this economy, we may need it later on!

I may buy a game or two, but most all of it is going into savings. I’m planning to move away this summer or fall and need all the money I get in order to pay for that.

I’m still planning on cashing it and heading to the nearest saloon to buy a round for anybody who will toast my late, great old man, who would have sneered at the idea of sending us our own money as a gift.

    Shoes! More shoes!

Seriously, I’ll probably use it to pay down business debt.

Ironically, ours is going into a savings account for Uncle Sam. My husband and I are both self-employed with decent income and low expenses - taxes are back-breaking. =(
