Rules? What Rules?
It probably isn’t written down anywhere, but it seems like how-to-market articles are supposed to be, if not dull, certainly straight forward. The same thing can probably be said about reviews of websites. After all, the goal is serious… to help you, the webmaster or web writer, create traffic. Serious business requires serious writing, right?
Well, maybe. But what if… what if you took a tack like Men with Pens does in their Drive-by-Shooting Sunday: Marketing Artfully? Go ahead, read a couple of paragraphs; I’ll wait.
Hard, at first, to even tell it’s got anything to do with marketing or websites. Which, of course, is why it’s a rule breaker. If, however, you read the whole post you’ll see it does in fact contain valuable comments that can help you or any webmaster build a better site.
So go ahead, break a rule once and awhile. The trick, of course, is knowing when and how.

Heh, too cool, Anne. I’m glad you enjoy the drive-bys. They seem to really be liked by readers specifically because they’re different. We like pulling off the intros and conclusions, blending work and play, blending fiction and non-fiction…
Yup. It’s good to be different.
Oh, and to answer your question? We usually break the rules. It’s our pleasure to say, “Why not?”

I usually break the rules because I’m just plain stubborn about doing things my own way. If my VP doesn’t yell out my name in frustration at least once a week, I consider myself to be too darn complacent.
Oh, and thanks for the plug for my first shooting.
