Of Amazon, BookSurge, Publishing and Self-publishing
Tracy Cooper-Posey, a fiction writer who blogs at Anchored Authors (anchored, as in anchored to a day job), has an excellent post called: Publishing terms, POD and the Amazon “Thing”
She gives short, pithy and accurate definitions of the various publishing stratgies at least theoretically available to book writers. I say “theoretically” because it’s so darn difficult to get a trade or New York (as Tracy calls them) publisher.
She’s also got a lucid explanation of how Amazon is proposing to change the way they deal with self-publishers.
Since I still would like to get at least one novel written and published, I poked around the rest of her blog. Although I haven’t yet found the magic key that will enable me to plots, there’s valuable stuff there, and not just for fiction writers.

Hi - just a note - I was very happy with my self-publishing experience. The book paid for itself within the first month. The best part about self-publishing was that the publisher markets the book for you. iUniverse pushed the book out to over 250 online book sellers.
My book is “The Stay-at-Home Mom’s Guide to Successful eBay Selling.” You can find it on Amazon in the top 15 books about eBay selling.
I highly recommend self-publishing as a way to get your book, and your name, out there. Once you have a book on Amazon, you can use that accolade to your advantage.
