Book Proposal - Rejection 1

That didn’t take long! One of the publishers I first sent the proposal to has already rejected Powerfully Recovered! I’m surprised this particular one came back so quickly because I had high hopes for them.
One down….

Book Proposal - A Blog Bookend Worked!

Done! Six proposals into the mail, including the trip to the post office, and one via email. That makes a total of 10.
And ten is enough for now. I’ve sent proposals to the most likely publishers that will accept an un-agented submission.
So now the waiting game begins. I’m visualizing a big advance!
Write well and […]

Book Proposal - Multiple Cover Letters

While six copies of the proposal for Powerfully Recovered! are printing I thought it might be helpful to tell you how I’m generating multiple cover letters:

I opened one of the cover letters in Word

I opened WritersMarket.com, logged in and went to my Submission Tracker

The submission tracker shows where I’ve sent queries because […]

Book Proposal - A Blog Bookend

I’ve written about book ending as a way to help stop procrastinating, or to handle some writing or other chore you’re avoiding.
Well, I’ve been avoiding sending out more book proposals. Ugh. I have the markets and the drafts of several cover letters. I simply don’t want to go through the process of addressing letters, addressing […]

Follow Another Author’s Progress to Publication

Robert Rummel-Hudson has sold his first book and landed a contract with St. Martin’s Press. The book, Schuyler’s Monster, was sold through an agent on the basis of a proposal. Congratulations, Robert!
Now he’s documenting the writing process through his blog, Monster Notes. At the moment there are only three entries… which seems about right to […]

Book Proposal – Book Store Search Results

As planned, I went to a big bookstore – Borders in fact. Yes, I know, I love independent bookstores too, but I wanted a commercial, chain store to get a sense of what’s actually happening in the recovery section.
My closest Borders does have a recovery section – they’ve marked two tiers of shelves, but […]

Book Proposal – More Market Research

Ugh – just went through another four pages of publishers in the self-help category on WritersMarket.com… it’s such a guessing game! If I’m not careful I’ll pick far too many – it’s so tempting and easy to add a market that is close. But close isn’t good enough.
I remember so well from my magazine and […]

Book Proposal – More Market Research

Okay, I’m a bit behind, although compared to what might be a good question. Just paged through 12 of 23 pages in WritersMarket.com’s self-help section.
It’s a tough call… health? Self-help? But I did uncover two more markets that have 12 Step recovery books and a couple I think probably should have.
The truth is I’m getting […]

WritersMarket.com to Get Facelift

As you know, I’ve been using WritersMarket.com to find markets for Powerfully Recovered! book proposal. Although they have a tracking service within their site, I find it kuldgy to say the least.
So I was pleased to get an announcement to day saying they are updating their site with something called “a fresh new look” – […]

Book Proposal – Three More Markets

My original market list had 7 publishers; I added one I already knew about. Today, from that first list I’ve identified three more.
One wants only a query letter – if they like the letter, they will ask for the proposal. You’ve simply got to read the submission guidelines… I feel best when I read the […]
