What Do Those Best Seller Lists Really Mean?

Lol! I didn’t know what I was getting into when I started exploring the number of books sold. I guess my awareness is increasing because I just found Bryan Catherman’ post called Understanding Bestseller Lists on his blog, Beyond the Binding.
It’s a pretty good description of both the types of best seller lists out there, […]

Book Sales Numbers

Like everyone else who wants to get a book written, in addition to expressing myself, I also want to know, or at least guess, about how many books I’ll be able to sell. You’d think it would be simple, and it would be easier if publishers were willing to let the public know how many […]

Books for Cell Phones - It’s Really Happening

We’ve talked about writing a novel using your phone’s keypad, and we’ve talked about cell phones as a platform for ebooks.
Book marketing expert John Kremer points to an article in the New York Times called Thumbs Race as Japan’s Best Sellers Go Cellular. At this point, the novels are those that have been written for […]

Beyond the Book

Just Make Money Online points to a podcast where Jason Van Orden tells how he makes $70,000 a year with his podcasts and blogs. So I ran up freerice.com
It’s excellent, if not earth shaking marketing advice. But it got me thinking…
In today’s market there’s a whole lot more you can do with the content of […]

More Reasons to Write a Book

A few days ago I wrote a blog entry called Why Do You Want To Write A Book?. There I listed some of the reasons ghostwriting clients of mine have for getting a book written.
Melissa Donovan, who blogs at Writing Forward took me seriously and created her own list of reasons in an entry called: […]

Why Do You Want To Write A Book?

A family memoir aimed at passing on what you’ve […]

Your Book - It’s More Than Writing

Bringing your book to market requires a whole lot more than just the writing. While it’s true, nothing happens if you don’t write, once you’ve got a completed manuscript, there are at least 10 things that need to be completed before your finished:
1. Addition of front and back matter - title page, copyright notices, index, […]

Is Print Dead?

Joe Wikert has an interview with Print Is Dead (both a book and a blog name) author Jeff Gomez. It covers a lot, including:

Ebooks are too much like print books
Questions (and some answers) about pricing
Some speculation about what we, as authors, should be doing about all this

If you’ve got any interest at all in writing […]

Book Titles

Because of a client’s question today, I got to thinking about creating book titles.
Since it’s also the day I do an article for Writing With Vision, I wrote an article called, strangely enough, Your Book’s Title. In my experience, creating the right title is more art than science but there are some suggestions about how […]

More Ebooks on Cell Phones

According to Publishers Weekly, publisher Houghton Mifflin has signed a deal to get at least some of its books on cell phones. Initially, the books will only be available on Embarq, Qwest, Orange UK and Bell Mobility (in Canada), but more carriers are said to be coming online soon.
Sigh – it looks like I’ll have […]
